Saving money on food

In a previous poll, I asked what spending category your food budget fell in. 82 percent of responses were from the thrifty and low cost category. Some of you left comments on how you keep it lower. What about the rest of you (as well as anyone new to the blog)?

How do you save money on food?

  1. Hey my friend! I've been off line for a few days, but glad to be back to your blog and see your new posts.

I have just recently discovered Sam's and it has been a huge blessing for flour, sugar, milk, butter, cheese, chicken breasts, ground beef, rice and other staples. I save a lot by cooking from scratch and I guess I just thought Sam's was mostly prepackaged foods, but come to find out I was wrong about that.

My brother and sister in law use The Grocery Game and save a lot of money that way. I would love to do that, but our stores here on the Outer Banks don't run sales like most stores do, so that doesn't work for me. So I use Sam's and coupons and work my menus around whatever sales I can find.

Also, I "CVS", found on moneysavingmom.com. This is one of the most fun things I have discovered and it really works. I have spent almost nothing on shampoo, baby supplies, make up, toiletries, and snacks for a few months now.

Good to be back in touch!
